This is the first in a new spin off series from the author's Elemental Legacy series.  You don't have to have read that in order to enjoy this.  But Carwyn is a much beloved character from that series and those that know him will appreciate this book that much more.  This starts the grand adventure of Carwyn and his mate Brigid.  When you live for so many years, life can get a bit ho hum.  I think these two are about to spice things up a bit! 

This is a mystery series with vampires leading he investigation.  They have some skills!  Trying to keep their identity secret from humans yet help out as much as they can will be a challenge.  Only being able to work at night is one of the biggest ones.  But Carwyn knows his mate better than she knows herself it seems.  She needs to get out of the monotony of providing security and stretch her brain a bit.  

The story seems to follow a typical mystery trope but what makes it enjoyable is Carwyn and Brigid. Their banter and their clear love for each other carry the story.
