Ava has always been different. Born with strong telepathic abilities, she lives a very isolated life until she is offered a job with an obscure network that aids powerful Immortal Guardians in their quest to protect humanity from the psychotic vampires who prey upon them. Suddenly, she doesn't feel so different. For the first time in her life, Ava has found a place where she belongs. She's happy. Life is good. And when her employers invite her to join a group of other gifted ones and a handful of Immortal Guardians on a journey to another planet, it becomes absolutely fantastic.
In no time at all, she is speeding across the galaxy aboard a Lasaran warship manned by two amazing alien races. It's the dream of a lifetime... until a vicious attack by a mutual enemy of Lasara and Earth lands her alone in an escape pod with no habitable planet in sight and only one ship within range: one that carries the enemy who wants to know why the bioengineered virus they released on Earth long ago didn't exterminate humanity and leave the planet ripe for their claiming.
Jak'ri doesn't know how long he has been a prisoner aboard the Cebaun, but he fears the enemy's twisted experiments will soon lead them to a virus that will eradicate the Purveli people. Despair grips him until a female from Earth is taken captive and reaches out to him telepathically. The gift that Ava said caused her such misery in the past soon becomes his salvation as the two of them form a fast friendship. Determined to distract each other from the horrors of their existence, they immerse themselves in telepathic communion during the day, then seek solace and adventure together in shared dreams. As their friendship deepens into love, the two hatch a daring plot to escape their captors. But the enemy will not let them go without a fight. Can Ava and Jak'ri stand against so many and emerge victorious?

Five Fun Facts About the Aldebarian Alliance Series
Hello! Thanks so much for joining us and helping me celebrate the release of THE PURVELI, the third stand-alone novel in my exciting new Aldebarian Alliance series. If you like sci-fi romance novels that feature strong heroes, strong heroines, loveable secondary characters, and action that will keep you flipping pages long past your bedtime, I think you’ll enjoy Jak’ri and Ava’s story.
I’m having so much fun with this series, so today I thought I would share five fun facts about it that you may not know.
1. It appeals to both booklovers who like sci-fi romance AND to those who prefer paranormal romance. In all of my books, I enjoy creating likable characters who are strong and can kick butt but also love to laugh and tease. That certainly describes the characters in the Aldebarian Alliance series. They just happen to be in space. ;-)
2. Though Aldebarian Alliance heroines find themselves in some dicey situations that one might think would lend the stories a somber tone, the books actually contain quite a bit of humor. When I sat down to write THE PURVELI, I admit I worried Ava’s situation might result in a rather grim tale. Instead, I found myself laughing and smiling as Ava and Jak’ri sought adventure in shared dreams and plotted their escape. I hope you’ll laugh and smile, too.
3. I delight in painting characters into a corner. I have always loved seeing how characters in books and movies react when they are taken out of their element and face incredible challenges. But the corners I’ve painted characters in the Aldebarian Alliance into have to be biggest I’ve ever written. (If you dive into the series with THE PURVELI, you might want to check out THE SEGONIAN afterward. I don’t think I’ve ever placed a heroine in a situation that seemed so utterly impossible to overcome.) Fortunately, the characters rise to the occasion and—together—the couples are unstoppable.
4. The Aldebarian Alliance introduces us to quite a few alien races. And one of the most interesting challenges I’ve faced with it is creating alien language: names of characters, planets, and moons; foods and drinks; weaponry and the metals used to create them; animals on alien planets; curse words, slang, and more. My goal is always to create words that sound foreign but aren’t so alien that readers will have difficulty figuring out how they’re pronounced. Too many words that I can’t even sound out tend to pull me right out of a story as a reader. So I try to find a happy medium.
5. I’m really enjoying the research I have to do for this series. I have always had an insatiable curiosity about the world around me. I also always try to infuse my books with as much realism as possible. So the Aldebarian Alliance books have driven me to delve into some fascinating subjects. Some of my favorites thus far include the effects of long-term space travel at zero gravity on the body, the anatomy and physiology of certain marine life, why long-term immersion in water can be deadly for us Earthlings (Purveli’s don’t have that problem), rain forest ecosystems, wormholes, and the science of science fiction—namely what is accurate and what is inaccurate in popular sci-fi movies and television series. It’s been a lot of fun.
Thank you again for joining us! I hope you’ll enjoy THE PURVELI!
Don't miss the first two books in the Aldebarian Alliance series!
As I have said from book 1 of the series---This would make an AWESOME movie! SOmeone needs to get on that. The author spins such a creative universe with characters that are rich and bold and full of love. I can't wait to read more.
I do love to read series in order, so that is my recommendation for this one. Having said that, it has been a bit since I read book 2. I found myself thinking some of this was familiar. Everything finally clicked and I realized Ava's story overlaps the timeline of Eliana's book. But that is OK! We get to see things in Ava's eyes. I honestly was to the climax at the end of the book before I realized why the planet seemed so familiar.
This book takes us even more off world if you will. Such wonderful world building! Flora, fauna and wildlife that are other worldly. And for those who think they may not like alien relations, Jak'ri is very humanoid like. Just a bit different skin color--and gills. I loved that Ava and the Purveli all were telepathic. I loved when she decided she had had enough and they needed to bust out of their confines. And I really loved how Jak'ri just fell more in love with her each and every moment they were together.
My only blip on the book--and this was just me and my reading pace--Ava and Jak'ri are able to dream walk. All of those scenes are in italics as well as all their telepathy conversations. It took some getting used to for me. I understand why it was done and it didn't make me want to rate the book lower because of it. Just a heads up that there are lengthy scenes in the dream world.
