Release & Review: Bullseye

Title: Bullseye
Series: Ruthless Kings MC #12
Author: K.L. Savage
Genre: Dark Romantic Suspense/Organized Crime
Release Date: May 28, 2021

BLURB

Just when you think you have it all, everything changes...

I had everything a kid could want.
A home. Food. Toys. Friends. Loving parents.
And it all equaled happiness.
Then my life went up in smoke.
Happiness no longer existed.
I trusted the wrong person.
And in a blink of an eye, the cruelty of the world reared its ugly head.
Four walls. Darkness.
Memory loss.
Chains.
Sex.
My first love.
And people watching in the corners.

Now, I'm conditioned.
I need to watch.
I need to be watched.
No one understands the turmoil inside me.
And the one person who seems to calm it?
Ruby Raine.

A little spitfire of a woman who released the strife I've been swallowing for eighteen years.
She made me realize how weak I was and how strong I needed to be.
To tackle my demons, I have to admit everything.
I have to trust and that's one thing that doesn't come easy for me.
Ruby shows me it's okay to let go, to let someone steer for a bit, to give up a little control.
So I let go. I let her have the reins.
The road is bumpy, a minefield of explosives with her debt and my pain.
Every chance she takes on me is a step I take to better myself.
Love is a surprise.
A dart that Ruby tossed, and it hit me in the middle of my chest.
Unleashing… everything.

I'm my own target. If there's one thing I can do, it's aim.

EXCERPT

Everyone’s room has a little history.
Where is his?
I tiptoe to the dresser. Pause. I cut a glance back to the door as if I’m about to get caught, but nothing’s there. After a minute, I continue. I open one drawer and roll my eyes.
Socks.
All mismatched.
“Of course,” I mumble.
I close that drawer and open the next.
Oh. Underwear.
Sexy underwear. None of that saggy Fruit of the Loom shit, but Grade-A nut hugging undies. I hold one up, and it feels like spandex. It has to be some type of stretchy material. Damn, I bet he looks so good in these as they cling to every curve.
Imagining them stretched over his tree trunk thighs, suctioning over his cock, and pulled taut over his plump ass like a second skin.
“God bless the woman who made this man,” I say silently to God, or whoever’s idea it was to make such a fine specimen.
I keep the drawer open because I’m nowhere near done with it. I want to see what else he has in the goody forbidden drawer. “I’ll be back,” I whisper to the sexy spandex briefs. “I’ll miss you.”
My knees pop as I squat to open the last drawer, and what I find surprises me.
It’s empty.
I tap my hand around the drawer, and the back end pops. I freeze. Oh, shit. I’m about to find something I’m not supposed to see. That was the point. This was what I wanted. I take a deep breath. Here it is. Here is Bullseye’s history that he keeps hidden away. Part of me feels terrible for just snooping around like this, but he left me in here, so…
With a slow, careful hand, I take out the board, ready for whatever surprises might be waiting for me. My imagination runs wild—maybe it’s photos of him and his lovers. Maybe it’s a secret stash of mementos. Maybe it’s… oh.
It’s nothing.
Just a bunch of cash and darts. That’s disappointing. I frown and dig around, even more, trying to find a dirty secret, but that’s all I see. Just stacks of cash and some of his darts. Nothing that tells me about Bullseye’s history. I’m coming up empty-handed.
“What are you doing?”
I scream, then hold my hand to my chest when I hear Bullseye’s voice. I look up to see him standing in the doorway, arms crossed and staring at me. “Uh, I’m snooping,” I answer honestly.
His eyes drop to my chest, and that’s when I remember I’m still holding a pair of sexy undies. I’m holding them close since he scared me.
“Need some underwear, Spitfire?” he tsks, walking into the room and shutting the door. “Cash? Both?”
“No.” I toss the underwear in the drawer they belong in and close it, then close the secret cash drawer. “I wanted to find something personal, I guess.”
“Disappointed that you didn’t?” He takes a seat on the bed, and the springs groan from his weight.
“A little bit.” I take the spot next to him and evaluate his face. His eyes are red, as if he’s been crying. A few things start to click together. He doesn’t have anything personal in his room because everything he deems personal, he keeps close to his heart.
So if I want him, if I want to get to know him, I have to earn him.

My goodness! This one is another hit for the authors. Bullseye will break your heart but then make you shine with happiness for him.

We have seen Bullseye in previous stories and you just knew there was some interesting back story. What gets thrown at us is so much more than I could have imagined.

And then there is Ruby. Spitfire doesn't begin to describe her. She is just the perfect fit for Bullseye. Their journey may have taken some huge turns but finally together, they can begin to heal. I loved their alone time as well as their group time. I loved how they have each others back in a safe environment. Just overall a great read.

Keep on bring those Ruthless guys to us. Love when the broken can find true happiness.

K.L. Savage decided they were tired of looking for the kind of books they wanted to read. They had an itch that needed to be scratched, and as every girl knows, nothing scratches better than an alpha.

They write about gritty, alpha males, sometimes their dark sides, and the women they love.

If you have the same itch, their alpha males should fix that.

I am a sucker for a single parent trope so I know I had to read this book. I also have read book one and I liked the premise of the playboy pact.  It seemed as though book 1 spent a lot of time on the angst and turmoil of breaking the pact.  Fortunately, Ashton realizes early on what Sage means to him and he gives up the pact pretty willingly.

The rest of the  book was a pretty light read. Swoony romance and some humor. A couple who adores each other and wants to take the time to get to know one another. Loved seeing the other guys in the pact again as well.

The one off for me in the book was Haiden.  I understand children acting up when they aren't happy about circumstances. He had every right to do so. It was a stretch for me, knowing child development as my day job, that this child had enough premeditative thought that he was able to set up all the things that happened to Asher. Seven year olds are impulsive and it would be perfectly fine if he was acting out--yelling, stomping, hitting.  The level of preplanning for all of the events and tricks he played---not typical.  Haiden became the villain in the story and not once did I get the sense that he had anything but love and support from his family. His personality knocked me out of the story.

Overall, an enjoyable book. Short read with a swoon worthy hero.

This is the first book in a new bounty hunter series. It is full of interesting characters, small town antics and of course a bit of romance.

Genesis and her children are looking for a fresh start. Ransom and his daughter are just going day to day. When Genesis moves to Ransom's home town, they are drawn to each other. Despite the spanrds they take some time to become friends. Both being single parents, they want to be sure the kids are ok with everything as well. When they finally come together, it's like they were always meant to be.  Very natural progression for the two of them.

When thirty seconds destroys everything, I have to find a new existence and keep my promise to always love our daughter, Lucy, the most.

Where to begin......The story is beautifully written. Flashbacks to fill in what we don't know. The man's POV throughout is unique.  Emmitt makes the story for me. The story in itself tragic yet filled with hope. I would say this is a book more along the lines of women's fiction vs a true romance. And that is ok.  Just go into it with those expectations.

What didn't work for me is all the angst. This couple has a chance at a second chance. They honestly could have worked things out the first time around if everyone had just been honest. I know that tragedy pulls at everyone's psyche. But Emmitt is just too good to be true. He holds up the end of a delivery room bargain to the detriment of his marriage. It was a head scratcher for sure.

The daughter gets therapy but no one else? Again Emmitt made the story for me. I didn't care for Tatum at all.  I am glad he loved her through it all but she was prickly at the best of times.  I did love Lucy as well and enjoyed seeing her blossom into a young woman who knows her mind.

Love this author's work.  The story is wonderfully written and paced.  Just not my favorite of her books.

Blog Tour & Review: Wild North

Wild North, an all-new angsty romance with a bossy hero and a woman who was born to survive from New York Times bestselling author JB Salsbury is out now!

To me, he was Grizzly.
To the world, I would learn, he’s someone else completely.

I should have died on that mountain.
But he rescued me.

More animal than man, he’s cold, distant, and fiercely territorial. He seems to hate me for simply breathing, and yet, he brought me back to life.

After my return to the city, I can’t stop thinking about him. His rough hands, intense glare, and the way he cared for me as if I meant something to him.

He tells me he’s dangerous. That I’m not safe around him. I would eventually understand why he warned me away. But by then it’s too late. My heart is his.

Excerpt

“Do you plan to kill me?”

I drop my spoon into the bowl and bite back a fierce response. Are you out of your mind, you stupid, stupid girl! “Why would I save you if I’d planned to kill you?” I’m unsuccessful at keeping the anger from my voice. When she doesn’t immediately respond, I slowly turn around to see that she hasn’t touched her food. Her gaze darts to the wall where I store my weapons—buck knives, machetes, multiple hatchets, and a hunting rifle.

“Those are for hunting.” I eye her untouched food. She must be hungry. Upon further inspection, I see that her face shines with perspiration, and her lips, which had regained their pink color last night, look pale once again. The abrasion on her head has scabbed over and doesn’t look puffy or red. “Are you sick?” I stand and cross to her.

“No, I’m in pain. What are you doing?”

Having dropped to a squat, I peel back the animal pelts to see if she has any other injuries. She tries to bend her knees, make herself into a protective ball, but she winces in pain, and her legs flop out in front of her. That’s when I notice the dark stain on her gray long johns. “Are you bleeding?”

“What?” She follows my line of sight to her midsection. “I don’t think so.”

I grasp the hem of her shirt and wrench the fabric up.

“Hey, don’t touch me!” She bats at my hands but stops when her gaze lands on the bloody scratches carved into her torso. “I didn’t—”

“Fuck,” I growl and drop her shirt. “Anything else?”

Her eyes turn to slits, and her pale lips thin. “Like I meant for this to happen?”

I leave her to grab my first aid kit and throw a shit ton more wood into the woodstove. “Take these.” I hand her an antibiotic and a pain reliever.

“What are they?”

“Do you want to die? Because I’d be happy to drag you back out where I found you. If you want to live, take the fucking pills.” I rip clean gauze from its packaging, and once she’s swallowed the pills, I direct her to lie down.

She keeps a cautious eye on me when I pull up her shirt. The wounds on her stomach and ribcage are mostly superficial. I pull her shirt higher, and she fights me without success. She moans in pain as she lifts her other hand to cover her exposed breast. Where the swell of that breast meets her ribs is an angry red and bloody wound.

“Lift your arm.”

Slowly she lifts her arm above her head. “My shoulder is sore. It might be broken.”

“Dislocated.” I go about cleaning away the old blood around the wound to get a better idea of what I’m dealing with.

Her gaze snaps to mine. “How do you… You fixed it?” She flinches, and air escapes her clenched teeth when I hit a sensitive area. “I think I remember. The pain, at least.”

I grab the flashlight in the first aid kit and click it on. “Take this. Hold it right here.”

She’s a horrible help, the beam of light shines just about everywhere except where I need it. I do my best to clean the area, and that’s when I see something dark protruding from the wound. It can’t be one of her broken ribs, it’s not the right size or color.

“You’ve been impaled.”

“Impaled? Are you serious?”

“I’m always serious.” I hop up and grab a wooden spoon and a pair of needle-nose pliers. I pour boiling water over the pliers and hold the wooden spoon handle to her mouth.

“What are you doi—”

I shove the wooden spoon between her molars, and her eyes grow wide and panicked. “Bite. This’ll hurt.”

She makes some unintelligible noise that is easy enough to translate. Something like, “Oh, God, no. Please, wait. Give me one more second—”

I rip a piece of wood the size of her pinkie from her body, and she screams behind the wooden spoon. Tears streak down her face, and her breathing is so quick I think she’s going to pass out. Good. She’s easier to work on when she’s out cold. She manages to stay conscious as I stuff the wound with sterile gauze and cover it with medical tape. Her cheeks are wet with tears and sweat, but she doesn’t make a sound when I remove the spoon from her teeth. “Now eat.”

I reclaim my breakfast seat with my back to her.

“Thank you,” she pants, probably fighting through residual pain.

My jaw locks down on lukewarm oatmeal. I nod and blow out a tense breath.

Stuck with a random woman in my space is bad enough.

Stuck with a dying woman in my space would be worse.

4.5 Stars

This author always brings the twisty turns to her stories. Based on the synopsis, I was not at all prepared for what unfolded. What happens when you are injured an at the mercy and goodwill of a grumbly mountain of a man? What happens when it comes time to return to the life you knew.

I'll tell you. NOTHING is the same. Jordan's life is forever altered. Alexander has secrets upon secrets and on top of his skills during their time in the snowstorm together. He is one mystery man. Nothing is as it seems. Family interferes. Hearts get broken and heal again.

These two seem and unlikely pair and yet, together they are more. Great story all around. Can not wait to see more of the brothers coming up.
