Review: Three Sacred Words

Title:  Three Sacred Words
Author: Christina Lee
Published: January 26, 2016
Genre: Contemporary, Suspense

From the author of Two of Hearts comes a standalone adult romance about finding love where you least expect it.

Meadow Starr has worked in housekeeping at the Golden Arrow Casino since she was legal. Raising her son, Joaquin, without the support of her parents or the child’s father was not something she had ever envisioned. Neither was pushing a broom, scraping money together to pay the bills, or living in a trailer park on the reservation. Little does she expect her worst nightmare and her best dream to show up in town at the exact same time.

Federal Marshal Alex Flores returns to the reservation where he helped solve a murder investigation last year. He’s never forgotten the mesmerizing woman with the luminous smile and world-weary eyes. Too bad the fugitive on this new case has led him straight to her doorstep. Meadow will never give up Joaquin’s father, not if her wary gaze or her tight set jaw is any indication.

Meadow’s draw to Alex is immediate, but no way she’s going to trade attraction for history, longing for heritage. When the stakes become higher and Alex steps in to protect Meadow and her child from the very man she was willing to defend, he can’t help falling for them both. Who knew something so wrong could feel so right? But as the lines continue to blur, something’s got to give, and Alex isn’t certain he can walk away so easily from love.

I am a sucker for single parent tropes.  Add in a hot guy who falls for the child along with the mom.  Yeah….perfect!   Christina Lee brings us that perfect mix in her latest book, Three Sacred Words.  We met Alex Flores as a co-worker of Shane in the first book in the series, Two of Hearts.  He is back on the Indian reservation in this book, hunting down leads on a criminal and hoping to see Meadow Starr again.

Meadow is an independent single parent.  She isn’t necessarily that way by choice but she will do whatever it takes to keep her son comfortable.  She has enjoyed the support of the people on the reservation.  What she doesn’t realize she needs is someone to capture her heart again.  Meadow can be stubborn and skittish.  Alex has is mission cut out for him once he sets his sights on Meadow.  Although they have insta-attraction, it was nice to see a slow build to trust and the beginnings of a relationship.

There is some suspense in the story.  Meadow’s ex is not a good man.  It was great to see some familiar faces from the first book—Dakota and Shane and the casino workers.  Also a cameo by Kai and Rachel from Christina’s Between Breathes Series.  Finally, your heart will melt reading Alex and Joaquin’s interactions.  That man was meant to be a father.  I think Joaquin sensed it before Alex or Meadow.  Icing on the cake for yet again a wonderful book by one of my favorite authors.  Can’t wait to see what she brings us next!
