He left behind a broken heart and the love of his life when he left for the majors. Not by his choice. Lo and behold, he gets picked up by the Cold Fury and in walks their new trainer, Vale, the only girl to make his heart long for more.
What I loved about this story:
1. We take a bit of a side trip away from the close knit friends we have come to love in the series. Hawke is the new guy and trying to fit in. Vale is also new and is hiding some major secrets. Nice to see some history on these two done with flashback.
2. The sense of family and belonging is so strong. We get to see that family is who we accept into our lives not just those born of our DNA. Hawke has some serious history with not only Vale but her father. They both have helped make him the man that he is.
3. We cannot choose who we love--it happens to us. Time, distance and broken promises kept Hawke and Vale apart, but the heart knows what it wants and it sometimes goes against what our head says is the right thing to do.
Continue to love where this series is going. Always wonderful to see previous couples show up in the next books. Looking forward to more from Sawyer!
