Blog Tour & Review: Out Of Love

I could love the monster or leave the man.

Out of Love by Jewel E. Ann is now live!

Conspiracies. Corruption. Serial killers.

You name it--I'm fascinated by it. My mom always blamed my overly curious and highly suspicious mind on my dad.

My incredibly overbearing dad.

Mr. No One Is Good Enough For My Daughter has been terrifying my dates since I turned fifteen.

College is my chance to be free from his control and date any guy I want.

I'm absolutely certain he would hate Slade Wylder--almost as certain as I am that I do too.

Since when have I shied away from trouble?

Slade fascinates me. He lives in a house I'm certain is haunted. His dog is trained as well as any guard I've ever seen. Rumor on campus is that he deals drugs. It would explain a lot.

But it doesn't explain why he saves me from my darkest moment.

It doesn't explain why I can't stop thinking about him.

And the explanation I finally discover is far more dangerous than any rumor.

Out of Love - Excerpt

After their kissy-huggy greeting ended, they walked toward the house with Jericho in tow. I waited for him to glance back at me. He saw me. There was no way he passed me a few seconds earlier on the street and didn’t see me. Yet, he made no attempt to acknowledge me.

Until …

My boy Jerry stopped abruptly and turned like he caught whiff of my scent. All the warm fuzzies filled my chest. A dog gave me more feels than any man had given me in a long time. Maybe ever.

Jericho liked me. Hell, maybe he loved me.

He protected me.

He smiled when he saw me—tongue out, tail in a low wag. I continued my way up the sidewalk, feigning surprise when he trotted toward me in spite of Slade barking his own command.

“Hey, Jerry.” I squatted down to give him double the love Miss Sophisticated gave him … and I had a treat in my pocket because part of me anticipated—hoped for—a chance encounter. “Oh, buddy … I love you too.” I closed my eyes and turned my face side to side while he showered me with kisses.

Slade cleared his throat.

I opened my eyes—noticing his friend must have gone inside. “Sorry.” I stood, sliding a treat into Jericho’s mouth along the way. “I know it’s hard for you to know he likes me more.” On a shrug, I bit my lips together to keep my shit-eating grin under control.

“Inside,” he said to Jericho while looking at me.

Jericho turned and headed to the back door.

“If you have a job to do … Jerry can hang with me tonight. I’m alone this evening.”

“Jericho. And he doesn’t need a babysitter.”

“Maybe I do.”

His brow tensed a fraction, contemplation settling into a slight frown for a few seconds, before he whistled and Jericho came running. “Send him home when your friends get back.”

Why was the only word that sat on the tip of my idle tongue? Why protect me?

“What are you going to do?” Okay, apparently “why” wasn’t the only word on the tip of my tongue after all. Six other words were in line first.

“Does it matter?”

Letting my gaze settle over his shoulder to the firehouse and images of Miss Sophisticated waiting for him, I lifted a single shoulder. “No. Just curious. Is she your girlfriend?”

“Does it matter?”

“I hate you.” I rolled my eyes. “Worst communication skills ever.”

“Good. Hate me. I prefer it.”

I recoiled. I didn’t really hate anyone. It wasn’t my personality to be hateful, vengeful, or hold grudges. Why did Slade Wylder want me to hate him? It was a joke. I hated his lack of sharing information.

“If you’re selling her some shit that will ruin her life, may I suggest you rethink that? Not cool, Wylder.”

“Noted.”

Tipping my chin up, I gave him several tiny nods. “Okay then. I’ll take Jerry to my house and spoil him. Maybe he comes back to you … maybe he doesn’t.”

Slade let his gaze slide down my body, a slow and easy trip. He didn’t do that when we met. Somewhere along the way, he decided it was okay. I wasn’t sure what reaction he desired from me.

Maybe nothing.

Maybe he did it out of pure selfish desire.

“I’m only allowing this because I love Jerry.”

Curious eyes met mine, slightly squinted.

I smirked. “Stripping me with those eyes of yours.”

Moments …

I collected moments in my mind, my heart, my soul, like Aubrey collected rare coins—my mom dying, my dad spending a few years thoroughly drunk. Mostly bad moments—permanent scars.

That moment I tucked into my memory forever as one of the first truly great moments.

Wylder …

The corners of his mouth quirked into pure sin. If Satan was hot as fuck, his name would have been Slade Wylder, and I would have been in a whole helluva lot of trouble.

The Jack and Jill series is up there in my top 5 series of all time. This book is billed at J & J #4. It could be read as a stand alone and you will think it's awesome. But for fans of the author and the original series---this book is fan-f*ckin-tastic! It made me want to go back and re-read the first books again, and again and then read this one AGAIN.

This is next gen for the series. Livy is Jackson Knight's only daughter. He still is uber protective of her even though she is 21 and away at college. He isn't above putting tracking devices on her phone and vehicle just to be sure she is ok. Than goodness for Aunt Jess! Livy is drawn to the mysterious guy down the street. He never talks, has a dog with him at all times, and is hotter than anyone she ever met before. He makes her want to be a supersleuth and try not to fall in love long the way.

Lots of intrigue and action in this one. The chemistry between Slade and Livy is off the wall. J & J readers will be going ahh! ahh! So many easter eggs in this one. We see Jess and Jackson again. Sit down and read it on one setting. No spoilers her, the story needs to unfold as it stands. I will say this, your heart will never be the same. The author sucks you in and then completely shatters what you thought you knew taking your heart and shredding it along the way.

The epilogue---Perfection!

Read this one. Read the whole series. Pick up all the books by this author. She will blow you away!

Release Blitz: Imagine With Me

Imagine With Me by Kristen Proby is now live!

From New York Times Bestselling author Kristen Proby, comes an all new novel in her beloved With Me In Seattle series!

Shawn O'Callaghan loves his job as a screenwriter almost as much as he loves his family. But this latest project could quite possibly test his patience beyond anything he's ever had to endure. Generally unflappable, the author he's thrown into the trenches with pushes every button he has. Sometimes twice. And it doesn't help that he can't stop thinking about her in ways that are anything but professional. But how can he help it? The brunette is gorgeous beyond reason--and utterly infuriating.

Bestselling author Lexi Perry is finally about to leave her mark on the world; after all, seeing her dark and dangerous words brought to life is a dream come true. Until she meets the man who is supposed to make that happen. From the minute they laid eyes on each other, it was clear there would be tension, but she had no idea how much until they got down to business. He obviously doesn't understand her vision. Though she's having trouble lately too, given all she can picture is what he looks like under his clothes and imagining what it would sound like if he talked dirty to her in that sexy Irish lilt of his.
If they can find a way to meet in the middle, this movie could be one for the ages. As could their love.

This is my first read of this author and what a book to launch in to! It looks like this is the first in a series. I am excited to see what else happens to folks in this small Montana town.

The bulk of the book is mystery and intrigue. But we get a lovely developing romance along with it. Skylar has been caring for your young brothers since her father died. On one of the worst days she has imagined, a stranger with storms in his eyes comes to her rescue.

The story is a bit of insta love but these two really seem to connect on the most basic of levels. They just get each other. I loved both Sky and Storm. Loved the small town feel and all the quirks. Max was the dog of the day for sure!

The mystery/suspense portion of the story was no great surprise but it did add some elements of the unknown to the story. Storm adopted this small town and became just what was needed in their time of chaos.

I would love to catch up with Sky and Storm again. I am hoping we see them in future stories. Would live to see Ty and Jake get their HEA at some point.

Excerpt

I watched Kira ride off, wondering what the hell had just happened. Sure, she probably guessed that I wrote that song about her. But she’d only heard the first few bars before sprinting away like I was the devil himself.

Spinning around, I located the lodge’s bike shed. I rolled a bike out and hopped on. The seat was too low for me, so I had to stand up on the pedals.

But no matter. I rode off after Kira, my first time on a real bike in years.

The road curved around to the left, and Kira’s house soon came into view. She was sitting on the front steps. She didn’t look all that surprised to see me biking toward her, but the look of pain on her face was so vivid that I could feel it in my gut. Something was wrong, and I still didn’t know what.

“Feel any better?”

She shook her head, and I thought I saw fear in her eyes.

“Kira,” I said softly. “I know you want me to leave you alone right now, but I can’t—our conversation isn’t over. In twenty-four hours I’ll be back on that bus. Honestly, you’re scaring me. When I last saw you, things seemed like they were on the upswing for you. When I said I think about you all the time, I didn’t mean to be a creeper. I meant that I was picturing a happy ever after for you.”

“Mama!” a little voice called from beyond the screen door.

At the sound of it, Kira’s whole body went rigid. And then tears spilled down her cheeks.

I heard little footsteps pounding onto the screened porch. And then a small set of hands became visible against the door just behind Kira. Quick as a flash, Kira leapt to her feet and spun around, darting through the door. It closed with a bang behind her.

“Whoa,” a man’s voice said. “Deep breaths, Kiki. What did he say?”

The hair stood up on my neck. I dropped the bicycle and covered the distance to the stoop in three paces. Leaping up, I opened the screen door. A little girl stood there, with fair, curly hair and blue-green eyes. I was no good with kids’ ages. She wasn’t an infant, but she wasn’t school-aged either. There was a babyish fullness to her face. She was three? Four? Five? I looked up at Kira.

“I’m so sorry,” she squeaked.

That’s when I finally understood. And I almost couldn’t draw breath to speak again. “I… She… What the fuck, Kira?”

“That’s a very bad word,” the little girl said, accusation in her voice.

“Sorry,” I said automatically. I raised my eyes to Kira’s. “You… She…”

I couldn’t think. There was pressure in my ears, and my pulse was ragged. Dizzy, I thought, absently, putting one hand on the door jamb for support.

“Breathe, man,” the guy behind Kira said. He wore a bright pink polo shirt and an expression of concern. “Sit down. Seriously, before you crash.”

I bent over and grabbed my knees. “Oh my God.” The only thing I could hear was my own ragged breathing and Kira’s choked sobs.

“Mama!” a little voice said, full of alarm. “Don’t cry!”

The scary moment stretched on, until I heard yet another bicycle approaching outside. A moment later, another male voice called out, “Knock-knock!”

The pink-polo-shirt guy answered him, his voice full of false cheer. “Hi, Luke!” Under his breath he added, “Wow. It’s raining men.” Then he scooped the little girl up in his arms, stepped around me, and walked out the screen door. It closed behind him with a bang.

I just stood there, staring at my shoes, trying to catch my breath. Kira’s shoes moved into my visual field, but I wasn’t ready to talk to her yet. Not until my head could clear. Which would probably be sometime next week.

We stood here, awkward and quiet for a couple of long minutes. There was some low-key chatter outside, and then I heard the sound of the bicycle departing.

The guy in the polo shirt came back inside, alone.

“You’re her brother.” I coughed, trying to reconstruct the world into a rational place.

“Yup,” the guy said. “Uncle Adam.”

“Where is Vivi?” Kira asked, her voice raw.

“Luke is taking her for a little bike ride. There may be ice cream involved.”

“Really, Adam?” Kira moved quickly to peer through the screen. “But that’s awkward.”

“Oh, honey. We have first class tickets on the HMS Awkward today. And the ship has sailed. Luke even had a pink helmet for her, Kiki. Just go with it, okay? I told him you were having a moment.”

I straightened up. “She’s having a moment,” I spat out. “Is that what this is?” My pulse was still pounding in my ears, but now from anger instead of shock.

Kira was as pale as a sheet. “I was going to tell you today.” She pulled a photo out of her pocket. “Here. I was trying to find a way.”

I snatched the picture from her hand. “She’s, what, four?” The photo shook as I tried to look at it. The little girl smiled up at the camera, a stuffed animal in her hands. It was purple. Somehow this detail made it all the more real. The little girl in the photo was clutching the purple cat I’d won at the fair all those years ago.

3.5 Stars

I love the premise of this series.  3 authors, a rock band and everyone finding their HEA.  Love all of the authors so this really was a no brainer for me to pick up.

This is the first book and although secret baby stories just confound me, the characters helped to round out the rough edges around why you would hide the fact that you are pregnant from a guy you deemed a very good friend.

Kira and Jonas meet one magical summer. He helps her to find herself again. And then goes back to his life.  She finds out she is pregnant. Finds out who he is and then I guess hopes she will never run into him again??  for some reason??  Nothing about their previous relationship would have led me to believe he would have been anything but supportive of her.

So although that story line is predictable and really no new twist to it, the secondary characters in this book are awesome.  Big brother Adam, the band mates, Ethan and little Vivi.  All of them take a mediocre story to something to turn the pages for.

I am looking forward to the rest of the band getting their HEA. As I said, all three authors stand on their own works.  I love them all.  Book one was just ok for me.

I don’t do relationships. A federal agent whose life revolves around rescuing kidnapped children, I’ve got no interest in catching any man who’s not a criminal.  I had my great love, and I lost her. No woman will ever compare to the blond ray of sunshine who left me half a man three years ago. And even though I help out my police officer brother by pretending to be head over heels for Reyna, it’s just a farce to put an evil man behind bars. 4.5 Hearts

I have read this entire series and I am still amazed at how fresh each story is.  We are immersed int he Chicago Blaze world yet there is so much more to the story.  I have been waiting on Jonah's story. Heart wrenching history and having to watch his team mates try to help him through.  I couldn't wait for this one.

You won't be disappointed!  Even if you haven't read the series, this book reads like a movie script.  Yes, we have the pretend to be dating trope. But the author brings a story of under cover sting operations, a slow build to romance, and a bit of social commentary on real ife events happening on our world.

Loved Rey so much!  Loved her job, her attitude and her heart. And Kai!  Could we get a story for him---please???  He deserves and HEA.

Great addition to the series.  Always great to catch up with this team.

There are a few things I notice about books that I an drawn to the most. I love to cheer for the underdog. Someone who is so downtrodden but gets a chance to see the sunshine again. I love books where our hero may be a bit rough around the edges but still loves with a giant heart.  And I don't always know this going in, but a love to have a bit of a surprise in the story. Something I wasn't expecting.

So let's talk about HOLLOW and how it matches up to my favorites list.  It couldn't have been a better read if I tried.  This story is about an existing family. Readers of both Heaven Hill and Generations will know Mandy and Dalton. And I have read most all of this author's work.  On the outset, it's an MC story. What we get though, is a profound look at mental health and healing and love.

The story is mostly told from Mandy and Dalton's POV but we also get insight form their son Walker. This was a hard book to read.  Lots of emotion and you just want to scoop them all up and tell them everything will be ok.  Mental health is an ongoing process. Getting to the point where you can say "I am ok with me" is a very long road for some folks.  Mandy puts int he hear work because the bottom line is she loves her family and wants to be able to show them that love.

You can read this as stand alone.  Or enjoy the whole series. Either way--pick this one up. Best I have read by this author by far.
