Axton

a.k.a. Slice -

Slice is the President of the Selected Sinners MC. He lives a life of being an  outlaw, and believes the club motto, The Devil Looks After His Own, to be true. Additionally, he believes if the club wanted a member to have an Ol’ Lady, one would have been sewn on the front of their cut when they were patched in.

With his father serving a life prison sentence and no idea of who his mother is, Slice is a loner and one of a dying breed of outlaws who thumb their noses at the law, the government, and any expectation society may have placed on them.

Avery

Avery Taylor traveled half way across the United States to attend school and escape her religious overbearing mother. Now a senior in college, she yearns to live a life opposite of the one she has lived to date; under the thumb of her strict parents.

Avery believes she wants a bad boy; someone who can take charge of her in-your-face personality, harsh mouth, and take no sh*t attitude. Working in a bar part time as a bartender, she’s shocked one night when the Selected Sinners MC comes in for a drink.

Her shock turns to lust when Slice walks in.

But she has no idea how bad of a bad boy Slice truly is.

About the Author

Scott Hildreth is

a very analytical sort who bases his beliefs on

statistics he compiles in his head. Often going as long as a month without so

much as a single sip of water, he drinks coffee as if it were the lifeblood of

his writing.

Scott fears flying, clowns, and amusement park

rides. Tall and lean with a cleanly shaven head and covered in tattoos, he

doesn’t blend in well. After reading his writings, this makes perfect sense.

His vibrant characters, backstories, and plots, although always relatable, generally

stand out as much as he does.

Willing to discuss matters at length most people

shy away from, Scott’s writing has revolved around such subjects as domestic

abuse, suicide, alcoholism, drug abuse, cancer, divorce, homosexuality,

religion, and lack thereof.

Born in San Diego, California, Scott now calls

Wichita, Kansas his home. He is a proud father, and lives devoted to the love

of his life, Jessica. When he isn’t writing, he may be found on his motorcycle

or in a local coffee house.

Scott's novels include Broken People, Undefeated,

Unstoppable, Unleashed, Unbroken, Baby Girl - Ruined, Baby Girl - Owned, Baby

Girl - Loved, To the Depths of Hell, The Alpha-Bet, Finding Parker, Karter, and

Confessions of a Smut Author.

The rules:
No dating.
No sex outside of the game.
No disclosing the terms of the contract.
Rules were made to be broken, right?
Eight weeks ago I signed a contract.  One that seemed like a good idea at the time.  A handsome bachelor, luxury accommodations, and a chance to win a prize my family desperately needed.  There were some rules though.  Lots of them actually.  Follow the script, no dating, sex, or disclosing the terms of the deal.  After my self-imposed moratorium on men the last year, it wouldn’t be hard to live up to my end of the bargain…so I thought.  Until I realized the deal I’d made was with the devil…and I was in love with his dirty-talking brother.

Excerpt

Every girl needs three things
1.  A flutter in her belly when she meets him for the first time.
Meet Cooper
My lips brush the top of her hand lightly, my tongue sneaking out to fleetingly touch her skin.  The brief contact stirs an ache inside me.  This woman tugs at something—more than arousal—something that makes me want to slow down time just to spend a few more minutes standing here.
“Did you just…” she stammers a bit.
“Did I just what?”
She squints at me.  “You know.”
“Do I?”
“I felt your tongue on my hand.  You…you licked me.”
I’d been dying to run my tongue along her neck all evening, although I hadn’t really meant to be so crude about it.  It just sort of …happened.  “I wouldn’t say licked, maybe just a little taste.”
“So you tasted me?”
My entire body suddenly has interest in this conversation.  “I suppose I did.  But it wasn’t nearly enough.  That brings us back to my invitation for dinner.  Tomorrow night?”
“I can’t.”
“The day after then?”
She laughs and shakes her head.  The sound makes me smile.
“Good night, Cooper.”  She pulls the driver’s side door shut and leaves me standing there…for a full five minutes after she’s gone.
2.  A best friend to talk about him to.
Meet Sadie
“And?”
“And I kissed him when we were in his office.”
“How was his office?”
“Really?  That’s what you want to know.  Not how was the kiss or aren’t you in breach of your contract?  How was his office?”
“You can tell a lot about a man by his office.”
I gulp another unladylike sip from my wine glass.  “His office was beautiful.  Sleek, overlooking the city.  It oozed power.”
“Nice.  Bet he fucks like he owns you.”
The thought of what he’s like in bed is enough to make me lose my train of thought.
“Go on,” Sadie prods.
I don’t continue immediately.
“You forgot what you were up to because you were thinking of him fucking you like he owns you, didn’t you?”  My best friend smirks knowingly.
“Shut up.”  I pause.  “Anyway, I don’t know what I’m going to do.”
“Well, him.  Obviously.”
“I wish it were that easy.”
3.  A gentleman that turns into a bossy dirty talker in the bedroom.
Cooper – behind closed doors.

“You haven’t even begun to see bossy yet.  Tonight I’m going to tell you to do things, and you’re going to do them.  When I tell you to open wider, or take my cock deeper, you’re going to listen.  You know why?  Because since the moment we met, all I’ve wanted to do is make you feel good.  Hell, I don’t even need to get off physically.  Because I’m going to get off watching you every minute.  So, yeah, I’m going to be bossy.  Now let’s put the rest of this behind us.  Do you want to be with me tonight?”
After that prelude, I nod my head fast.  I’m no fool.  Who wouldn’t?

3.5 Hearts

First let me say that I enjoy this author sooo much. I love her MMA series and was thrilled to be able to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review. I like meeting the characters and watching them develop.Cooper is one hot totally alpha male. Once he lays eyes on the feisty Kate, he know he must have her. Kate is sweet but also fighting to do what is best for her family in a very difficult situation. I enjoyed the pace and the writing style of this book. Again, I like this author's other works. I adored Kate's best friend! What did not work for me was the overall premise of the book. I know that reality shows like Survivor and The Bachelor are popular. It just isn't my cup of tea. The times Cooper and Kate were together were wonderful. They were trying to get to know each other and the heat factor was through the roof. Everytime the story line went back to the TV show and Cooper's angry manipulative brother, I found myself slipping out of the story.

So, 4.5 hearts for the author and writing style. 3.5 hearts for the overall story. There are more books to come in this series. I look forward to reading them and seeing where the author takes this new set of supporting characters.

Review: A Second Chance at Paris

Blurb

One week in Paris. One chance with her childhood crush. And one lie that could ruin it all.

Before she was Dr. Celeste London, Astrophysicist, she was Mary Celeste Haverford: dork, loser, the geek formerly known as Hairy Mary. But she’d left all that behind—and left Ion Blackwell behind, nothing but an unrequited crush and the memory of a high school field trip, a night in Paris, and the words Celeste had never had the courage to say. She’d never expected to see him again…until a surprise encounter on a Parisian riverboat tour brings him back into her life, and gives her the opportunity to start over as someone new. Someone Ion doesn’t recognize, transformed from a social outcast into a polished, professional woman that Ion doesn’t realize is the girl he’s been longing for since childhood, the ideal he’s dreamed of his entire life.

Suddenly this vivacious (if charmingly awkward) “new” woman is teaching him that real love is better than any dream—but Celeste is hiding more than her identity. Hiding something that makes it hard to trust her increasingly erratic behavior, and her frequent secretive phone calls. When the truth comes out, the deception could shatter them both…unless they can give each other a second chance, and take a risk on love.

Excerpt

With a smile, Celeste leaned on the rail. She’d been a silly girl, heart on her sleeve, but she kind of missed that. Falling in love was never the same—never as light, as sweet, as guileless, the emotion not as raw or real when it became about work schedules and who paid for dinner and whether it was too soon to have sex. Mundane things took the romance out of it, when at sixteen it had been about wishing for that one perfect, breathless, magical kiss with that special someone who didn’t even know she was alive.
Now she just had a half-dozen ex-special someones who said she was an amazing friend, but a lousy girlfriend.
Her eyes stung. She should be standing here with…someone. People did that; they fell in love and took romantic trips to Paris, and cuddled on dreamy moonlit boat tours. But even then she’d have been worrying over her presentation for tomorrow, wondering if Ophelia gave their father his meds, pondering wind speed for Kelvin-Helmholtz instability in Jupiter’s Red Spot, picking out constellations…and never quite here with the imaginary boyfriend.
She really wasn’t cut out for relationships.
She lifted her gaze to the sky and picked out Venus. It hurt, when she smiled. “Guess I wasted a wish,” she whispered. “Do I get a do-over?”
The soft scuff of a sole against the deck warned when someone approached. She straightened, rubbed her eyes, and pulled her hoodie tighter around herself. Last thing she wanted was to ruin some happy couple’s romantic Parisian night when they stumbled on a single woman on the verge of a nostalgic crying jag. They’d probably think she was pulling a Rose, about to fling herself dramatically over the rail of the mini-Titanic.
The footsteps stopped at her side, barely a foot away. She caught a sense of height, masculine body heat, a quietly commanding presence. A low voice rolled over her, husky baritone like whiskey and silk.
Belle nuit, n’est-ce pas?” he asked, softly accented inflections agonizingly familiar. Celeste looked up, her heart tumbling to the very bottom of her chest and constricting painfully tight.
Fathomless blue eyes looked over the water, set in an elegantly sculpted face: ten years older, more weathered, tanned complexion darkened by the shadow of stubble—but so distinctive she’d know him anywhere. She clutched the railing with fingers almost numb to the cool metal, blood draining to leave them rubbery. She knew him. She knew him, but there was no way it could be him. It was impossible. It was incredible. It was absolutely unbelievable, and she had to be hallucinating.

It was Ion Blackwell.

Review

Title: A Second Chance at Paris
Author: Cole McCade
Published: 1-18-15, indie
Genre: Contemporary Romance

      5 Hearts

AHHH! This book!  So sweet. So Sexy. So much fun!  Ion Blackwell and Celeste London tear up Paris in a weeks’ time and tear up their hearts in the process. First off, Ion.  If you are looking for a new Book Boyfriend, you will need to take Ion home with you.  In fact, you’ll probably be in love with all the Blackwell’s (read about sister Zero in her novella at the end of the book.)  Ion…dark hair, blue eyes, dreamy voice and the love of Celeste’s life from the time she was a teen.  He unsettles her and the tension is palpable.  The pacing and dialog in this book keep the reader’s attention and of course make for very swoon worthy moments.  Again, mmmm, Ion Blackwell……

I found myself highlighting passages because they were so beautifully written, I wanted to be able to go back and re-read them quickly.  The similes were absolutely picturesque.  I could SEE the moment and FEEL the characters.  I wanted to read more just to have the pictures painted in my head.  To me, a sign of a well written book.

“As he brought her high once more, sweet, bright rhythm carrying her to that gasping pinnacle, she trembled fragile and iridescent and beautiful as a dragonfly’s wing, shining in the light of his sun”

The heroine is Mary Celeste London Haverford. Pretty sure the author taps into an inner geek girl on a regular basis.  I’m not sure where he hides her, but in this book, he nails the female Astrophysicist persona so well.  I loved Celeste’s running inner dialog with herself.  LOVED all those geeky references: Star Wars, Firefly, and Wizard of Oz.  Loved that her heart is so big and overwhelmed, even when she is trying to do the right thing.  (Truth..I may have considered throwing my kindle at her a few times just because she was so stubborn about her relationship with Ion).

Back to Ion…sooo worth the read just to meet him.  Last quote to make you go..ahhhh…..

Ion: “All that matters is that I miss my starry-eyed daydreamer.  I’ve been looking up at the same sky every night---and I’ll be waiting Forever if I have to.  You know where……I’ll say everything I wanted to say all those years ago.”

You are going to want to check out the author, Cole McCade.  I promise, you will enjoy the read.  Be sure to keep reading after the story for Ion’s baby sister Zero and Evan’s meet.  Very much looking forward to more great things from this author.  Watch for Bayou’s End #2 releasing..... hopefully soon!!
