Hmmm....This is my first time reading this author. I was intrigued by the synopsis. I do love a good mafia story. I love a bit of suspense. The author's writing style is spot on. Good flow to the story. Grabs your attention and gives us a few twists and turns along the way.
That said... This is described as a dark romance. I have read my fair share of those as well. My issue with this story is the male lead. I understand Saint set up all the events told so far in order to exact revenge. Such a dark, and vengeful character. He admits to not being a nice man. If he simply used Mila to get revenge and kept her as a prisoner until everything plays out--I would be fine with that. I can't get my head around a man who wants to demean and injure a woman yet is attracted to her. And Mila to him apparently.
The violence toward her was uncalled for. This was beyond BDSM for me. I would much rather he be mean or cold to her but get to know her and then they may delve into romance. Just my preference.
This does end on a cliff hanger. It's a doozy so I am feeling like I need to finish this story out. My home is that Saint gets his head around his feelings for Mila and starts to treat her with respect.
