Lucy Sinclair was no stranger to pain.
She grew up with three younger brothers, met a bad boy, got pregnant by him, married him, and then suffered through a nasty divorce from him. Pain. That was pain. To top it off, she even had to go through the heartbreaking divorce of her parents. Through it all, she survived. All she cared about was making sure her daughter was happy and taken care of. Despite an ex-husband hell-bent on ruining her life, she fought to overcome. She’s gotten to the point that she’s okay with being just okay. She never cared about herself because she never had the time. It was Angie and only Angie she focused on, but that all changed when Benji Paxton offered to help her daughter on the ice.

benji-01
Benji knew the moment he saw Lucy, he’d never be the same. Especially when she came with the bundle of crazy that was her daughter. His heart wasn’t ready for them. After years spent sobering up and finding who he was without the alcohol, he never forgot he was being punished for not appreciating the love he had when he was younger. Because of his past, he had gotten used to being alone, a recluse, but even he had to admit it was getting old. He was lonely. Hockey wasn’t enough anymore. He wanted a family; he wanted his true love, and Lucy and Angie were just that.

This book is for any single mom who wants to give up.
Just keep being a great mom. And take care of yourself.
Your prince is coming.

Toni Aleo scored a perfect hat trick with this one!  Could not me more pleased with a book than that.

Score #1: Benji.  He is Jordy’s roommate on the road.  Very quiet.  Keeps to himself.  Harboring so much pain and guilt.  Hands down, Jordy’s story has been my favorite of the series.  But Benji has snuck in there and captured my heart!  Such a kind and thoughtful man.  So patient with Lucy and Angie.  NHL hockey.  Pee-wee hockey.  Super explosive s3xy times….*sigh*

Score #2: The Sinclair family.  Ms. Aleo has taken two beloved series and brought them together.  How much more perfect can that be?  Lucy Sinclair has supported her hockey playing brothers through the Bellevue Bullies series.  She is the oldest and sassiest of the bunch.  The love and teasing that occur between the siblings is worth the read.  The group texts – golden!  Benji is on the Assassins team.  We get to catch up with Shae and Elli and all the teams’ ladies.  For epilogue lovers, this book is GIANT.

Score #3: Angie.  Single parent tropes get me every time.  Lucy’s precocious daughter Angie, steals the show in every scene she is in.  Angie is just as fierce as her momma.  She knows what she wants and shares that information to everyone.  She wants her mom to have a prince charming.  She wants Lucy to smile and be happy.  She wants Benji to help with that.  My heart broke for her that her bio dad was such an a$$.    Angie becomes the balm that helps heal Benji’s heart.

I’m not sure this author will be able to top this book.  I will eagerly read more from her, but this one is perfection.  Great read! Great Characters! Read this one!
