From the author of the USA Today bestselling A Little Too Far series, the first in an edgy new contemporary romance series that follows a family on the run...

As the oldest son of a Chicago crime lord, Robert Delgado always knew how dangerous life could be.  With his mother dead and his father in prison, he’s taking charge of his family’s safety—putting himself and his siblings in witness protection to hide out in a backwater Florida town.

Fourth grade teacher Adri Wilson is worried about the new boy in her class. Sherm is quiet and evasive, especially when he’s around his even cagier older brother. Adri can’t help her attraction to Rob, or the urge to help them both in whatever way she can.

But the Delgados have enemies on two sides of the mob—their father’s former crew and the rival family he helped take down. It’s only a matter of time before someone finds them. And if Rob isn’t careful, Adri could end up in the crossfire...

This is the first book in a new On the Run series by Lisa Desrochers.  The book is romantic suspense but there is also some mystery mixed in.  The series will follow a group of siblings who are in witness protection after someone took out a hit on the five of them.  Their mobster father is in jail on racketeering charges.  Book one sets up the story for the rest of the series and follows Rob, the oldest child, as he tries to get them settled with their new identities.

In a small backwater town, Rob sends his baby brother to school, trying to make things more normal for him.  Sherm has not spoken since the night they took flight from Chicago.  Sherm’s teacher becomes his saving grace and Rob’s fascination.  Adri Wilson is drawn to the brothers.  She can sense their sadness and wants to help any way she can.

The story unfolds as Rob and Adri begin to trust each other and spend more time with each other.  Adri is a strong and fiesty heroine.  She is willing to stand up for herself, even if that means no longer being close with those she loves.  I was somewhat surprised with the outcome of the story.  There seems to be an HEA but the story is not over.  I have a feeling things won’t be settled until the series wraps.

Loved getting to know the family.  I was intrigued by their history and a willingness to keep together no matter what.  I liked that they were willing to consider what the new normal for them may be if they can’t go back to the life they had.  I also like Adri’s friend Chuck and their relationship.  The next book in the series follows oldest sister Lee.  I wish is was available today!  Great start to new series!
