The Akseli
(Aldebarian Alliance #4)
by Dianne Duvall
Release Date: October 11th, 2022

New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall brings readers the next stand-alone novel in a thrilling new sci-fi romance series full of action and humor.

Simone has hunted and slain psychotic vampires night after night for hundreds of years and desperately needs a change. When the leader of the Immortal Guardians offers her an opportunity to guard ten mortal women who are venturing to another planet, she dives right in and finds traveling into space and meeting amazing alien races just as exciting as she'd hoped… until an enemy attacks. Simone saves everyone she can before she's thrust into an escape pod and the ship explodes. Alone, fearing some—if not all—of her friends have been killed, she vows to seek vengeance.

Despite his fierce reputation and propensity for violating the law, Janwar has formed a friendship with strait-laced Prince Taelon of Lasara. When the prince's ship is destroyed, Janwar joins the massive Aldebarian Alliance-wide search and rescue mission and soon locates the Gathendien ship that launched the attack. An odd thing happens, however, as he and his crew stealthily approach it. The lifeforms inside begin to perish, two or three at a time in quick succession. Much to his surprise, someone else has reached the ship first: one of the very Earth women he hoped to rescue.

Fascinatingly fierce, Simone bands together with Janwar and his crew to search for her missing friends and wreak havoc upon those who wish to harm them. She also widens eyes, drops jaws, and sparks laughter and mischief as she banishes the warriors' world-weariness and makes each day seem like a new adventure. The friendship that grows between Janwar and Simone swiftly deepens into love. But the enemy warriors they face are tenacious and boast more weapons in their arsenal than the alliance knows. Can Janwar, Simone, and such a small crew vanquish them?

Aldebarian Alliance Series:

The Akseli Playlist

Hello! Thank you for joining us! I’m very excited to be here today, celebrating the release of THE AKSELI, the fourth stand-alone novel in my exciting Aldebarian Alliance series. If you’re new to my work and enjoy sci-fi and paranormal romance novels that feature strong heroes who adore strong women, action scenes that will keep you flipping pages, humor, camaraderie, and happily-ever-afters, then I think you’ll enjoy Janwar and Simone’s story. (If you love paranormal romance but aren’t a fan of sci-fi, I still think you’ll enjoy this one.)

One of the questions I’m often asked is what kind of music I listen to while I write. Those of you who have hung out with me online already know my answer: I rarely listen to music when I’m writing because I invariably end up singing along with the songs and lose focus. BUT that doesn’t mean that music and writing never intermingle for me. Certain songs always bring specific characters, books, or scenes to mind. So today I thought I would share my playlist for THE AKSELI:

1

Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor Swift)

I could easily see this playing in Simone’s head while she’s tearing through the warship that attacked the Kandovar. Look what those nefarious aliens made her do!

2

Count on Me (Bruno Mars). Everyone needs someone they can count on. Simone’s Immortal Guardian brethren have always had her back. And Janwar’s crew/make-shift family has always had his. Now Janwar and Simone also have each other.

3

What’s Up Danger — Blackway & Black Caviar. This could be Simone’s anthem, although I could easily same the same for most female Immortal Guardians. Simone does NOT shy away from danger and totally kicks ass. I love her strength. Janwar does, too. And—as the most feared and notorious pirate in the galaxy—Janwar doesn’t shy away from danger either, diving right into battle alongside Simone and his crew.

4

Rise (Katy Perry). This one could be Ava’s anthem. Ava is the heroine of THE PURVELI (Aldebarian Alliance book 3) and appears in this book.

5

Enemy (Imagine Dragons, JID, Arcane & League of Legends)

Janwar has a lot of enemies, something the sizable bounty on his head has increased.

6

Best Time Ever (Stephanie Kirkham). Simone and Janwar would both agree that—despite the dangers they face—the time they spend together in THE AKSELI is the best time of their lives.

7

Wolves (Selena Gomez and Marshmello). Simone and Janwar both have dark pasts and have waited a long time to find love.

8

Believer (Imagine Dragons). Janwar may be a cocky pirate and chronic rule-breaker on the surface, but his life and who he is has been shaped by the pain he’s endured. So I couldn’t resist adding this one.

9

Try Everything (Shakira). I think this song accurately portrays the way Simone and fellow Immortal Guardian Eliana (heroine of THE SEGONIAN) approach their adventure in space. They’ve both lived very long lives that required them to do the same thing night after night—hunt and slay psychotic vampires—for hundreds of years. Now that they’ve left Earth, they want to see and experience everything. And boy, does Simone do it.

10

Familia (featuring Bantu)—Nicki Minaj & Anuel AA. This one I associate with Simone and the rest of the Immortal Guardians who appear in all three series. My Immortal Guardians are like one great big family. They’re loving. They like to razz and tease each other. And they are utterly loyal. They will do anything for each other. And if someone wrongs one of them, the rest won’t hesitate to seek vengeance.

11

Seize the Power—Yonaka. How could I not think of Simone when I hear this song? Yes, she’s aching. She’s worried about her friends. But she has serious power in her hands and won’t hesitate to let her enemies know that she’s in control.

Each book gets better as we go through this series.  I hope you have read all of Dianne's books but you can start with this series and get pretty caught up in the world building.

I love sci fi and this series is an afternoon matinee, lock yourself away from the world, drift into fantasy type of read.  Let's just add in the fact that Janwar looks like Jack Sparrow and has a good heart under that pirate persona.  Yep--you will love this story.

Pirates in space?  Great idea.  Janwar and his crew are trying to find the missing earth women.  They pick  up Simone and the adventure begins.  Great chemistry between these two and actually between Simone and the rest of the crew as well.  Wonderful pacing for the story--I didn't want to put it down.

I love the little peeks at what we might get next in this world.  I cant wait to read more!
