I went back and grabbed book 1 in the series before I jumped into this one. Not necessary, but I like to read in order. Ella James is a new to me author. I absolutely fell in love with the first book. The synopsis here also held promise.
I should know better than to go in with expectations. I was hoping we would get mostly forward progress in the story line from book 1. This story actually runs parallel with some flash backs to when Dash and Amelia were younger. I didn't get that sense of friendship development in this book like the first had. I felt Ammy and Lucy would have been having LOTS of conversation about this whole relationship.
That said, the story is ok. Childhood friends to lovers. I felt that Dash really fought what they could be together. Clearly there was attraction and in his heart he always loved her. The walls seemed too high at times for me. I also though the big secret/mystery was just a tad unresolved. Honestly, in this day and time, what happened to him is not tolerated and to think he was so naive that there was NO one he could have turned to for support. It wasn't believable to me.
Love meeting new authors. I really am interested in the other two friends and where their stories will lead. I hope to see more of Lucy and Amelia and their loves in the next books.
