From New York Times bestseller Katy Regnery comes a new twist on a beloved fairytale.
In this modern retelling of The Little Mermaid, a fisherman's daughter from an Outer Banks island untouched by time, meets the son of the North Carolina governor at a fancy party she helps to cater.
Laire, who wants more from life than her little island can offer, is swept away by wealthy, sophisticated Erik, who is, in turn, entranced by her naiveté and charm. The two spend a whirlwind summer together that ends on the knife-point of heartbreak and forces them to go their separate ways.
Years later, when fate finds them together once again, they will discover the terrifying depth of the secrets they kept from each other, and learn that shattered hearts can only be healed by a love that willfully refuses to die.
All novels Katy Regnery’s ~a modern fairytale~ collection are written as fundraisers. 10% of the e-book sales for in March and April 2017 will be donated.

The creativity behind this series once again blows me
away. Katy Regnery brings it in her
version of the Little Mermaid. The
little hidden gems that reflect back on the original story and yes even the
Disney version might go unnoticed for a bit but in the e nd the light bulbs
will all flash on. I found myself saying
“duh” “oh, of course”, “yes, so clever”.
This is the story of Laire, a fisherman’s daughter. Sweet and innocent but wanting to escape her
life of island living. And her chance
meeting on the mainland of Erik. Son of
the Governor and so very out of her league.
What develops is a loving friendship over the course of a summer. Both realize that being together means a lot
to each of them. But Erik has to go back
to school soon and Laire needs to work hard and raise more money so she can go
to school eventually as well.
I won’t go into much more detail, because I don’t want to
spoil it for readers. This is a second
chance romance, so that will give you some idea as to what occurs. The writing is fantastic and Regnery throws
in some twists the reader may not expect.
I dropped the book a half point just because I felt the first half of
the book, although it laid out the relationship between Erik and Laire, tended
to drag at points. Its young love and I
just found myself wanting to jump ahead.
However, after the Interlude, I COULD NOT PUT THIS DOWN! I stayed up way
to late. My brain wouldn’t shut
down. Hangover for sure.
Love is what it is.
We can’t help who we love and sometimes that might be in opposition to
what others who love us see for our future.
Best summary of the story:
“We are each born into a family, it’s true. But Laire who
was born of the sea, and Erik, who was born of the land, had taken their
destinies into their own hands, and with their own rules, they had secured each
other’s forever.” <3
The icing on the cake for this series is that the author
donates the sales of each book to a different charity. If anything, buy the book to do some good in
the world. But by Don’t Speak and read
it! You won’t be disappointed!
