Blurb

It happens whenever wolf shifter Roni Axton is near Marcus Fuller: a crackle of sexual awareness that’s intoxicating…and deeply annoying. Marcus is a pack enforcer who oozes power, but Roni is lethal in her own right—nothing like the flirty females who flock around him. Even still, his possessive gaze makes one thing clear. Marcus has singled her out for seduction, and he wants to make her sit up and beg.

No matter how aloof and unfazed Roni acts, Marcus can tell she wants him. When a brutal attack by a jackal pack forces them to work together, it’s the perfect opportunity for Marcus to chip away at her defenses—until he falls into his own trap, completely unprepared for the intensity of their connection. Roni is the only one who’s ever seen past his shifter charm and discovered the man hiding beneath it. And for Marcus, claiming Roni once will mean needing her forever.

Review

This is book 4 in the Phoenix Pack series by Suzanne Wright.  Each book could be read as a stand-alone although previous characters show up again in each new book.  This book sees the Phoenix Pack and the Mercury Pack working together again. In this shifter world, shifters are known to humans although there are laws that should be followed for safety reasons and most of the time, the packs comply.

The heroine in this story in the Mercury Pack alpha’s sister Roni.  She is an enforcer and an excellent alpha female in her own right.  Her defenses are up most of the time due to a tragic history that redefined her family and her pack.  She has good friends but is not willing to settle down with one wolf for the long haul.  She does not believe she is mate material.  Roni prefers hanging with the rest of the male enforcers and isn’t really a girly girl.

Marcus is and enforcer with the Phoenix Pack.  He has been close friends with the alpha since they were young pups.  Marcus is close with his sisters but has a tense relationship with both of his parents.  Again, actions that occurred in his childhood have helped shape the man he has become.  He is determined to not find a mate as a prophecy proclaims he will cause her harm.  All that changes when his wolf becomes interested in the tough skinned Roni.  Roni’s wolf is insisting she pay more attention to Marcus.  It’s never good to fight against your inner wolf!

As in the previous books, there are bad shifters out there who would like to get the upper hand on other more dominant packs.  The two alphas and their enforcers must work together to defeat this new batch of evil before the humans or the shifter council get wind of what is happening.

I enjoy the writing style of this author.  She tempers, humor with adventure, and throws in some steaming hot romance to keep things interesting.  I think the first book, Feral Sins is still my absolute favorite.  I love that we continue to see that relationship with Trey and Taryn and the rest of their pack through the eyes of each new character in each new book.  Both of the main characters in this story are strong and hold true to their alpha tendencies.  This is a bridge book for a spin off series on the Mercury pack.  I look forward to reading more books by this author.

*I received and ARC of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
