Review: Fearless

Title: Fearless
Author: Lauren Gilley
Published: January 13, 2015, Indie
Genre: MC, Romance

A family drama like no other, a sprawling character epic, a forbidden love story full of angst, adventure, heartbreak, and second chances. Welcome to the mother chapter of the Lean Dogs Motorcycle Club; meet the girl raised by outlaws, and the fearsome man who will always hold her heart.

Ava Teague left for college with a busted heart and a deeply ingrained love for her biker family. She returns home to Knoxville for grad school, just in time for her father to accept the burden of president…and for Mercy Lรฉcuyer to roll back into town, looking to patch into the Tennessee chapter once more. She’ll steer clear of him, she tells herself. She has a new life, a new boyfriend, and a new outlook. But she can’t shake her DNA. And maybe she doesn’t want to.

Felix Lรฉcuyer left the swamps of Louisiana for a life as an outlaw biker named Mercy, but it was his family, and the retribution he dealt because of it, that made him famous within the club. Fourteen years ago he fled New Orleans for Knoxville, to become an extractor and bodyguard within the mother chapter, guarding Ghost Teague’s family, becoming a constant companion to little Ava. When she was seventeen, he finally crossed the line. Now she’s twenty-two, and he’s back in town as on old nemesis rears its ugly head, and puts the entire club in danger. The fate of the club is uncertain, but Mercy has no doubts about his heart; it still belongs to Ava.

Lauren Gilley is a new to me author but it looks as though she has been publishing stories for a while now. I must have been under a rock to not have found her work yet. Believe me when I say….you Do Not want to miss out on the stories this author puts together!

I am not new to the MC genre. I like my MC books a bit more on the dark side---more of the workings of the club balanced with some romance. Fearless is just perfection! This author has completely ruined me for any other MC book. I scooped up every one of the books in the series so far and I can not wait to jump into them!

Fair warning---this is an EPIC tale. It spans 14+ years and is told in both flash back and present day. There are alternating point of views from multiple characters throughout, although the leads have most of the story. The story in LONG. However, at no time did I feel I needed to skip over anything. It was that riveting. It consumed me. It had danger and laughter, loyalty and brotherhood. Underlying it all was the strength of family and true love.

I can’t finish up without telling you about Felix “Mercy” Lecuyer. He is the dark, broody Cajun who acts as the tormenter/enforcer for the Lean Dogs. Everyone is afraid of him. He has a secret though. There is a soft spot in his heart for a smart, spunky girl. He will do anything for Ava Teague--Princess of the Lean Dogs. His golden heart, his care with Ava and his devotion to his own family will put him on your Book Boyfriend list, I guarantee!

I can’t say much more other than buy it, read it, fall in love with the Leans Dogs and their 1% bada$$ selves. Fantastic!!!

The rest of the series so far:

Book 2: PRICE OF ANGELS

Book 2.5: HALF MY BLOOD

Book 3: THE SKELETON KING

Book 4: SECONDHAND SMOKE

Lauren Gilley was (mostly) raised in a barn, where her attention to detail led her to the sport of dressage. She earned a degree in Business Management, but her true calling has always been fiction-writing. She writes Literary Fiction which is sometimes mistaken for romance, and is passionate about elegant, evocative prose, and complex character development. When she’s not crafting novels, she’s mucking stalls…and thinking about novels. She lives in the South.

I write in third person limited perspective, POV changing ONLY during a scene break, never within a scene or a paragraph, despite some confusion as to that point. I like pretty prose and detailed descriptions. Rich stories take time to unfold, and I write novels for readers who want to settle in deep with a book. If you're looking for trendy style, you've come to the wrong place. All of my novels are character-driven literary fiction which contain some adult content and strong language. These are character studies, with an emphasis placed on character development and carefully-crafted narrative, without adherence to standard romance formulas. I'm all about the atypical.

You've been warned...
