Fans of Scott Hildreth have been clamoring to get the whole story on A-Train. He shows up in each of Scott’s series and always brings a unique perspective to the action in whatever book he is in. It’s taken me most of the day to organize my thoughts enough to write this review.
Honestly, this is Scott Hildreth, people, the man blows me away each time I pick up his books! Hard Corps brings us the life and times of Alec Jacob aka A-Train. The story is told in his point of view from the time he is 18 up until the present. It covers all of the story lines he has been a part of in other books but again, from his point of view. This book can be a stand-alone, however, I really feel that those who have come to know A-Train will get so much more out of this story than those meeting him for the first time.
The book brings together so many elements---military, MC, boxer/fighter, coming of age, romance ---really fits the needs of a lot of readers. We see other characters we have come to love: Erik, Slice, Dekk, Ripp and their ladies. That said, what the book says between the lines is where the reader will get all the feels. Alec is a man profoundly changed by his circumstances. He is a man of strong convictions and a true guardian and friend to those he brings close. His respect for children and families will bring you to your knees. What I found myself marveling at was his voice. I have read the other series he is part of and to be able to not only tie in his story lines to this book, but to keep him in character, speaks to the phenomenal writing style of this author. No doubt in my mind, this book was about the A-Train we all know.
