Ben Miller met the love of his life the day he crossed paths with Elle James in their high school cafeteria. New to Beaumont, he took a chance when he approached her. Their first encounter was everything his mother ever read to him about fairy tales. He saw the girl who would be his forever.
From the moment Elle James met Ben Miller they’ve been best friends. Everything they did, they did it together, from late night study sessions, family vacations, throwing bottles off the water tower, going to prom and finally moving to California for college.
However, after the almost tragic accident where she nearly lost her twin sister, Elle’s life hasn’t been the same, and neither has her relationship with Ben.
One fateful decision changes the scope of Ben and Elle’s relationship. For one, it means a new beginning. For the other, it means change.
I love when author's take us along on an extended epilogue. This is the second book in the Next Generation series by Heidi McLaughlin. It spins off from the Beaumont series. All the kiddos are all grown up and finding their HEA.
Elle James has had her share of heartache. Her father died when she was very little and her twin sister just about died recently. To say she hasn't fully recovered from all that is an understatement. Her family tries. Her best friend, Ben tries. But she is a time bomb waiting to happen. Honestly, she is a self absorbed b*tch for most of the book. There is a soft side in there somewhere, but she has no clue how her actions are affecting those who care about her.
Ben is a golden friend. He supports Elle no matter what. Or he has, up until they drunkenly cross that friendship line. He finally can't handle the heartache anymore and moves to a new city for an internship.
Fortunately, this seems to be Elle's come to Jesus moment. With support of her family and extended aunts and uncles, she takes a close look at who she has become. If I were Ben, I think I would have tossed in the towel much sooner. But, the heart knows what it wants. He hangs in there and forgives her,
A bit of angst, some turmoil, great family moments and some steamy romance when they finally get down to it. Loved seeing the older generation pop up in this book. Can not wait to see Jimmy fall apart when it's time for his baby to find her HEA. Looking forward to reading more!
Great addition to the series.
