Review: Ryker (Cold Fury Hockey)

Title: Ryker
Author: Sawyer Bennett

Genre: Contemporary, Sports

The rugged men of the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team are winning hearts once again in another scorching novel fromNew York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett.

The stakes have never been higher for Carolina Cold Fury goalie Ryker Evans. With his contract running out, he’s got a year left to prove he’s still at the top of his game. And since his wife left him, Ryker has been balancing life as a pro-hockey star and a single parent to two daughters. Management is waiting for him to screw up. The fans are ready to pounce. Everybody’s taking dirty shots—except for the fiery redhead whose faith in Ryker gives him a fresh start.

As the league’s only female general manager, Gray Brannon has learned not to mix business with pleasure. And yet even this tough, talented career woman can’t help breaking her own rules as she gives Ryker everything she’s got. She hopes their hot streak will last forever, but with Ryker’s conniving ex plotting to reclaim her man, the pressure’s on Gray to step up and save a tender new love before it’s too late.

Sawyer Bennet gives us another hot hockey player on the Cold Fury team. This time we learn more about the goalie, Ryker—The Brick Wall. He is good friends with Zack and along with Garrett and Alex, they make a formidable team!

One of my favorite tropes to read involves single parents. And if it’s a single dad who hasn’t been dating but home taking care of his kids—my heart melts. So enter Ryker and Violet and Ruby Evans. My ears perked up and I knew I was going to love this story.

Gray Bannon is the first female GM of a NHL team. Way to go Sawyer by breaking some boundries with this one! So nice to see an educated, talented, somewhat geeky, strong female lead. Breaking through that male dominated position puts Gray in the spotlight. When she realizes she maybe has a mad crush on Ryker, she knows there is going to be trouble. She tries to deny her feelings.

Ryker feels the chemistry between the two of them. He also tries to ignore having the hots for his boss. Eventually, the stubborn alpha in him wins out and he makes a move. The girls are so sweet in this story and add a bit of comedic balance. They bring a bit of normalcy to a steamy romance. There is also a fair bit of hockey in the story.

Sawyer Bennet is a one click author for me. Give this hockey team a shot. The books can be stand-alone but I like to read in order as you will see previous characters and partners in the successive books.

*I received an ARC from Netgalley for an honest review.

Sawyer would like to report she doesn't have many weaknesses but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate.
