BURN

by Suzanne Wright
Published September 1, 2016, Little Brown Book Group

Part of a small demon lair in Las Vegas, tattooist Harper Wallis lives a pretty simple life. That changes overnight when she discovers that her psychic mate, or ‘anchor’, is a guy who’s rumoured to be the most powerful demon in existence. Compelling, full of secrets and armed with raw sexuality, Knox Thorne is determined to claim her as his anchor, creating a psychic bond that will prevent their inner demons from ever turning rogue.  The billionaire also wants Harper in his bed.

Knox is used to getting what he wants, and he wants Harper. He’ll have her, and he’ll keep her safe from the threat that looms over her. Because Knox protects what’s his. He won’t allow anyone to take her from him. Even if it will mean letting the demon inside him rise and wreak the havoc it was created to make.

Oh my goodness!  What a nice juicy nugget this book is!  If you read a fair amount of paranormal, you will be pleasantly surprised by the word building in this one.  Suzanne Wright has given us Vamps and Shifters.  This time around, we meet her twist on the demon world.  So many layers.  So much to learn.  Loved it!

Unlike shifters, Demons do not have a “true mate.”  They do have one other demon who is their Anchor.  Someone who helps them from going rogue.  Not everyone finds theirs.  Sometimes the Anchor relationship turns into more, but not always.  So what happens when your Anchor happens to be a s3x on a stick Demon AND he happens to be one of the most powerful rulers in the Demon world?  Yeah, Harper Wallis didn’t stand a chance.

Harper is a pretty independent Demon herself.  She wants no part of being bossed around by an alpha male.  Turns out Knox and his Demon are willing to give her leeway on this.  As their feelings toward each other change and grow, we see Harper willing to turn some control over, at least in the bedroom.  There is also the secondary turmoil in the Demon world around politics and the dark forces that are trying to do some damage.

This book takes place in modern time in Las Vegas.  As I said, just wonderful world building.  So descriptive of not only the different Demon clans and designations, but just the whole Underground itself.  I’m ready to hop on a plane if I can go visit!  I’d love to hang out with Harper’s whole lair.  Wonderful humor tossed in with the suspense.  Great start to a series!  Can’t wait to see what kind of trouble some of the secondary characters get into next.
