Release Blitz & Review: Smiling Irish

Smiling Irish
Summer Haven Trio #2
by Katy Regnery
Published April 3, 2018

Tierney Haven and Burr O’Leary come from completely different worlds…

…but there’s a reason they say “opposites attract.”

Bookish Tierney Haven has always preferred places to people, and she especially loves the peace and quiet of Moonstone Manor, an estate museum located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where she is head docent, chief historian and live-in caretaker. The very last thing she expects to find on the doorstep at midnight is bruised and bloodied stranger, Burr O’Leary, in desperate need of her help.

Against her better judgement and at the risk of her brothers’ wrath, Tierney offers Burr sanctuary at Moonstone Manor, and nurses him back to health, surprised to discover that the dashing, enigmatic stranger loves the history and peace of Moonstone as much as she. But Burr has a dark history, and those who hurt him will stop at nothing to eliminate him...placing Tierney in grave danger until he is well enough to find them first.

This is "baby" sister Tierney's book  The only girl in the Triplets and well sheltered by her brothers for most of her life.  Tierney is wicked smart and prefers her bookish life over getting out and mingling.  When Burr O'Leary stumbles to her door, she finds her herself a bit of realignment.  She may yearn for quiet and her books, but her body is looking for someone just like Burr.

The author does a masterful job at the giving us the slow burn.  Burr and Tierney really want to explore a relationship but God love'em, they decide the danger in their lives needs to resolve first.  Loved seeing her brothers again and seeing them size up Burr.  Really liked the friendship that blossomed while Burr was staying with Tierney.  And that firey Irish temper in all parties involved?  Yes!  Romantic Irish whispers---On, my yes!

So happy for both of these characters to have found each other.  Looking forward to Ian being able to settle himself down long enough to find love now as well.

Great addition to the series.  Great Romantic suspense as well.

Silence fell. The only things screaming were the demons inside my head. My anger rose rapidly.

“Jace!” I barked. “Clean this shit up.”

He and the newest prospect, Rich, started to push the human waste down the industrial drain with a shovel.

Blood dripped from the tips of my hair and ran down my face. I grabbed the razor we used to skin the heads and moved over to the mirror. I gathered the hair in the center of my head and lifted it up then buzzed the sides.

I left the mohawk long.

Better.

I flipped my hair out of my face and spun around to face my men. They seemed unsure what to think.

“Like the new look.” Rail said, trying to break the tension.

Gus nodded in agreement, but I caught him glance to where Morgan stood off to his side.

“Fuck, I would give my left nut to have Tess back,” Rail muttered to Brick.

Brick remained silent, which was good, as I was moments from flipping my fuck switch.

I grabbed a bottle of whiskey on my way out and stuck it in my saddlebag before I kicked my bike to start the engine. The air was cold and whipped through my hoodie as the smell of the rain to come made memories come thick and fast about the last time it poured.

Her lips shivered, but her eyes told me she had a lot more fight in her.

“You’re cold.

“I’m fine.” She pulled the joint from my lips.

I shook that thought from my head and turned down a side street. I cut the engine and found Mud outside his surf shop.

“Evening.” He grinned when he saw the bottle dangling from my fingers. “You want to keep going?”

I nodded and removed my hoodie and tossed it on the table, but carefully laid my cut on the leather couch away from the mess.

He motioned for me to take the chair. I flopped back and looked up at the naked posters that littered the ceiling.

Mud lit a joint before he spoke. “This new?” He pointed at his head.

I nodded.

“You want a glass?”

I wiggled the cap off with one hand and drank the neck before I set it aside. Mud huffed with a grin, and smoke poured out of the corners of his mouth. He tapped his phone, and The Black Keys’ “Lonely Boy” played through shitty speakers. I eyed him, curious if it was meant for me, but he just clicked the machine on and went to work on my pec.

I focused all my energy on the needle that drilled tiny pinpricks into my flesh, but sadly, it didn’t last long. The pain subsided, and I was left with my demons gnawing on my memories.

Nolan was nowhere to be found.

This is the second book in the series and I am even more attached to this MC and the characters than I was in book one. No mistake here. This is a seriously f 'd up bunch of people. I mean, what in the ever living heck did I just read? Leave your squeemish stomach at the door. Tess and Trigger are perfect for each other if they can just get past the horrors that are their lives.

Once again, this is a serial. Things are not wrapped up nice and neat by the end. Don't go into it thinking it will be and you will enjoy the ride that much more. Great story telling. Still so many twists and back stories unfolding. I'm not sure I can wait for the next book. Please hurry!

True MC grit in this one. Take no prisoners. Tell no tales. Yeah. It's sticking with me this time.

Blog Tour & Review: Roman

Title: Roman
Series: The Clutch Series: Book One
Authors: Heidi McLaughlin and Amy Briggs
Genre: Vampire Romance
Release Date: March 29, 2018

What a fabulous collaboration! Amy and Heidi rocked the paranormal romance world venturing into the unknown with their first go ahead. Roman was so much than I expected.” ~ Amazon Review

Amy Briggs and Heidi McLaughlin are a duo to watch! Roman was intense, romantic, sexy, and beautiful, but it was also so much more than a love story.” ~ Amazon Review

Everything about him tells her to stay away, yet she can’t seem to get the vampire out of her mind.

For Roman, humans are the bane of his existence always having to follow their rules. In all his years, he’s never needed one, until now.

For Fiona, vampires are off limits, evil members of society, until the one known as Roman crosses her path and shows her he’s no different than her.

3.5 Hearts

It's taken me a couple of days to get my head around this one. I adore Heidi McLaughlin--I gobble up her books. I am a HUGE fan of PNR. I wanted to like this soooo much.

I do like the world building. Vampires walk among the humans. They were 'created" by Sisters--the three fates. There are rules in place to keep humans and vamps safe and there are consequences. There are good guys and bad guys. Loved all of that.

I just couldn't connect with Fiona. She was superficial and flat from the start. I suspect there is more to her than we know, but I couldn't see the connection Roman was feeling with her. I never got the sense she was anything more than a means to an end for him even though he was professing an interest beyond that to her. He screws her stupid and then all of a sudden Vampires are all the rage in her world?? I wasn't buying the love connection. It just needed something MORE. Again, maybe just me. I also have no love for Las Vegas. Not interested. Don't care. So all of that together may have soured by outlook on the book.

All that being said, there are some really interesting secondary characters. There is a huge twist in this one that I am curious as to how it plays out. There are a couple of Vampires and Fiona's best friend that I would like to see developed into their own story.

I will read the next in the series just to see how things play out. Not a bad start for a series but not totally my cup of tea.
