Release & Review: Immortal Sun

IMMORTAL SUN

Rachel Van Dyken

Release Date: March 24

Available in Kindle Unlimited

Discover a brand-new world where demons, vampires, fallen angels, gods, and fae roam the earth in modern day Seattle in a gripping romantasy from #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken. There isn't a lore that doesn't exist around Mt. Olympus, and nobody is safe from the wrath of the immortals who watch.

My only goal: Beat him at his own game.
His: Save the world and himself.

Thousands of people have disappeared from this world by way of his hand and the universe breathes for only one more drop of blood--mine.
He promised he would help me find my brother.
He lied.

I don't know why I immediately trusted Cyrus. He was stunningly gorgeous, nice, and so accommodating that maybe I felt too safe—maybe that was the first red flag.
The second was that he always said my missing twin was fine, that he'd come back when he was done traveling and that I should stay put until his return.
Looks are deceiving. And I forgot..

Now I'm completely screwed. I'm trapped here until the eclipse and the great Sun God says I'm the last sacrifice he has to make in order to ascend to Olympus. I have so many questions about the mixed mythology and each answer that crawls out of Seattle has me more terrified and confused than the first.

I'm surrounded by fallen angels, demons--basically every terrifying yet perfectly normal looking creature on the planet and working at a bar called Styx, counting the days until two of the very coins I take on a daily basis will be used to cover my travel.

Anubis seems nice enough but I don't want to die. There has to be a way and I'm hellbent on finding it even if it means I join the other side.

I have read several books by this author. PNR and Fantasy are my go to reads. This one sounded interesting to me. There was some unique world building. Cyrus is a god trying to get back to Mt Olympus and Cleo is looking for her brother so she heads to his last known address and meets not only Cyrus but all the other lesser gods and fallen gods that live there.

That is about the gist of what I understood, I started reading and felt like I was missing some information. I was re-reading parts. I could not get the attraction between Cyrus and Cleo. It was not chemistry to see them argue back and forth with each other.

There is a lot of history thrown in and I think it muddy the waters a bit. The book did not keep my interest for very long. I did muddle through and finally at about 75%, I gave up.

I do love this author's works. This one is not a favorite. I don't think I will read any more int he series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is my first read of this author. I was intrigued by the synopsis. It's been a bit since I read this trope.
The set up was great. We meet the characters and get into their heads right away.  Aurora and Jackson were great. It got all muddled for me when Aurora and Jackson are apart and she is traveling as a model. There were some editing issues and timing concerns for me.

The action was in your face but boy did we jump around a lot--months, weeks. I was back tracking to make sure I didn't miss something.

Ethan seemed very much like Jackson to me--just older. I wasn't feeling much between the three of them other than the s3x. I think there could have been some more character development and a stretch to the story.

Not great for me. A quick read and might be interesting for other folks.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
