First off, if you have not read the Woodlands series by Jen, you will want to do that. You could read this as a stand alone, but I promise you, all the feels, the angst, the love, the tears, will be sooo much more if you have the back story. Start with UNDECLARED Amazon link and read at least books 1-3. Only then can you begin the journey that is Charlotte and Nathan.
I started this story via weekly newsletter printings from the author. I received and ARC copy for an honest review. The complete edited book comes out on December 11, 2014.
This is truly a work of love for her fans. We met Charlotte and Nathan and his brother Nick as part of the epilogues in the Woodland series. Fans demanded to know more about them and the Charlotte Chronicles bloomed from there. The story takes place over a number of years. Letters play a big role in how the story is told. The author did an excellent job keeping the reader informed and involved when much of the action was told in letter form.
"This letter is a mess of words, a jumble of thoughts. Maybe there's not a coherent sentence in the above paragraphs. There is only one thing you need to know. I have never stopped loving you. You have always been first in my heart even when my actions didn't convey the message. ....... I will spend the rest of my days proving to you with my body, with my heart that I am the Nathan of the Charlotte and Nathan that we were meant to be."
Charlotte and Nathan are characters you find yourself rooting for. They are good people who have made mistakes but are destined to be together. The book is about that quest for lifelong love. Sometimes epilogues seem trite or are thrown together quickly. I promise, this epilogue will melt you! Read it!
This book is called "book #1" of a spin off series from the Woodlands. I am hopeful that means we will get to see Nick find his HEA as well. There are other side characters that would be interesting to explore.
